WHAT IS A SPSA?
The School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is meant to consolidate all school-level planning efforts into one plan for programs funded through the consolidated application (ConApp), pursuant to the California Education Code (EC) Section 64001 and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Each school collaborates with staff, students and parents to create a SPSA which outlines educational goals based on data and observations. The steps required to reach those goals are noted in these plans aligned to necessary state and federal funds.
Each school has a School Site Council composed of teachers, administration, parents and staff. In secondary schools, students are also involved. The School Site Council helps to write the SPSA for their school. If you would like more information as to how to run for a School Site Council position at your child's school, please contact the school office. Thank you!
Parent Involvement And Title 1
School-parent Engagement Policy (From CDE) Each school served under this part shall jointly develop with, and distribute to, parents and family members of participating children a written parent and family engagement policy, agreed on by such parents, that shall describe the means for carrying out the requirements of this section. Parents shall be notified of the policy in an understandable and uniform format and, to the extent practicable, provided in a language the parents can understand. Such policy shall be made available to the local community and updated periodically to meet the changing needs of parents and the school . SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT (From CDE) As a component of the school-level parent and family engagement policy, each school served under this part shall jointly develop with parents a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high standards . Please check your child's school's website to read the policy and become informed. The principal of each school will be happy to help you by providing a paper copy as well. Additionally, each school site will hold an annual Title I Family Night and information on both of these documents will be agendized during that meeting for input and discussion. The Title 1 Parent Compact and Title I Parent Involvement Policy is located at the back of each schoolsite's SPSA plan.
